In September 2011, the Nomad Trust opened up 3 houses as move-on accommodation. We had noticed a need for people to move to where they can still receive support, in their efforts to move their lives forwards…or up!! One of the houses (8 beds) is for ex service users of Nomad and the other two (equaling 12 beds) are for ex forces that have been homeless or are vulnerably housed and in need of some extra support.

As part of the project the residents take part in activities and volunteering, all tailored to whatever is needed by the individual at the time. The Moving-on-up Project encompasses the move-on accommodation, our two new businesses (furniture and horticulture), life skills/activities and anything else that assists in the residents progressing with their futures.

We have recently converted the garage on the site in to a life skills room. These life skills sessions will include cooking and craft sessions led by Nomad staff or outside volunteers. We are sure that these activities will prove to be popular and help to promote team building and taking part.

The Moving-On-Up project could be described as independent living with a safety net. We aim to move people on…not let them stand still.

YMCA Lincolnshire & The Nomad Trust are currently looking to expand our Move-On Accommodation Provision to further increase our housing support.
