Ex-Armed Forces
Our move-accommodation has two houses that are for those who have been in the armed forces.
People who have been in the armed forces can come to us for a variety of reasons. These could be relationship breakdown, lack of support and even possibly the development of mental health issues after leaving the forces. Many of these people do not know who to go to for help and their lives take a turn for the worse. They can then find themselves on Nomad’s doorstep.
Nomad is currently working very closely with the Royal British Legion (RBL) who gave us a grant of in early 2012 to improve the accommodation and facilities. They assist us to place individuals in the houses that are in need of the extra support. Each individual has a different story and different needs, and we do what we can to meet those needs. By working with the RBL we have specialist help from people trained to work with ex-forces and who have possibly been in the forces themselves.
By living in the house, the residents act as a support system for each other. As they have all been in the forces, they are aware of what the after effects can be and are more accommodating towards each other and their various issues.
