Emergency Night Shelter

The night shelter is operated on an emergency basis only. Beds cannot be booked and there is no guarantee that a bed will be available. Nomad tries to give priority to new service users.

If you wish to enter the night shelter and need some information, please go to ‘Are you homeless’.

The Nomad Trust service changed in November 2011 from a 24/7 service to just a night time service. The shelter had recently gone through many changes, and this change of service presented us with many challenges and the need to reduce the availability of shelter access, however, by partnering with BeAttitude we have been able to continue to provide meals and somewhere to go during the daytime.

The Nomad Trust has always been, and will always be, here to help the homeless. We knew that without the night shelter, the homeless in Lincoln would find themselves living on the street. Nomad has made many changes in order to ensure the regular running of the shelter, 365 nights of the year.

The bedrooms in the shelter are all dormitory style therefore any individual accessing could be sleeping in the same room as up to 5 other people. There are 4 male rooms and 1 female room. Service users of the opposite sex are not permitted to share a bed/room even if they are in a relationship.

On entering the shelter, individuals will be given a hot drink, and a snack will be provided at 10:00pm. Service users should have received a meal at Beattitude, however if for some reason they have not, then a hot meal can be provided.

Service users will have access to showers and laundry facilities. Service users are encouraged to only bring essential belongings with them as there is lack of storage space and each individual is allocated only one small locker. Service users are also asked to take all their belongings with them in the morning as there is no access to the shelter during the daytime and there is no guarantee that they will be able to access the shelter the next night.

Service User Activity

The night shelter was awarded a grant by Lincolnshire County Council which allowed the the Nomad Trust to provide activities to promote positive mental health.

The activity chosen was to paint the smoking room which was very plain and not in the best condition.

A number of service users took part (see pic below).

Left to right – Tim, Sarah, Andy, Anthony and Clive. All these service users worked with Pippa, our Mental Health Support Worker in their task.

This group worked together to plan the whole activity, the design, what they wanted in it and what they wanted it to look like.

They discussed the positive quotes to go on the wall, worked as a team and helped each other. There was positive social interaction,  a meaning and purpose to their day and had a sense of achievement at the end of the activity.

These are the final results of the day……
