Furniture Store

The Nomad Furniture Project was set up due to the office staff at Monks Road taking increasingly more calls from the public offering donations of furniture which we had to turn down due to lack of storage space. This seemed to be a terrible waste when we knew that we could use the items when we re-settle service users into their own homes, many of which would be unfurnished.

In October 2011, Nomad went through many changes, one of which was the loss of any government funding which we had previously received. There was a very real risk of the Trust shutting down if we could not fund it, therefore it was decided to open a furniture shop, taking in these previously refused items of furniture and selling them on in order to raise funds to keep the shelter open.

In December we opened the new shop on Bar Gate which was run by two members of staff and an army of volunteers. The volunteers came from the St. Giles move-on accommodation and from the general public. We also had ex-service users who wished to come and help and the team is thriving.

The furniture shop received very good quality items which were then sold on at very reasonable prices. Some items needed a little TLC and we had some volunteers who were knowledgeable in furniture restoration therefore they are able to bring some items back to their former glory whilst teaching other volunteers their skills.

We have recently merged our furniture shop with our charity shop on Sincil Street in the city centre. The restoration of furniture has moved to our warehouse in the Monks Road area, open 9-5.

We have a van which is used for our collections and deliveries. If you would like to make a donation, please contact the furniture shop on the number below and we will organise a collection time. We do ask that the items be of saleable quality and that soft furnishings (sofas, mattresses etc) have the fire retardant labels still intact.
